Chopard Luxury Sunglasses – A History of Swiss Precision

Whenever it comes to the Swiss, the word that comes to mind is ‘precision,’ whether it is in timepieces, jewellery, sunglasses or even banking. The one thing the Swiss are renowned for is their strict focus on detail. And Chopard luxury sunglasses are no exception to the rule. With a company history spanning more than one-and-a-half centuries, there has to be a reason for their continued success. That’s right, Swiss precision in design and of course, functionality. Here is a bit of company history, the evolution from timepieces to luxury jewellery and sunglasses. It’s a natural progression.

The Early Days

The year was 1860 and the setting was Sonvilier, a small village in Switzerland, where a young watchmaker with an overwhelming amount of talent set up a workshop. Before long the extreme precision Louis-Ulysse Chopard built into each and every timepiece began to gain recognition in places as far afield as Scandinavia, Russia and throughout Eastern Europe. And so it continued for the next 61 years.

Enter the Next Generations

Seeing the possibilities of extending the line to new locations, Chopard’s son, Paul Louis, established the La Chaux-de-Fonds branch, which was to become the headquarters in 1937. At that point he relocated the company to what is historically known as the Fine Watchmaking Capital (Haute Horlogerie) – Geneva. He felt it wiser to be in closer proximity to the company’s cosmopolitan clientele. Just six years later, in 1943, the grandson of Chopard, Paul André, took over and ran the firm for the next 19 years.

1961 – The Dawn of a New Era

None of Paul André’s sons wanted to continue on in the family business so he sought to find an acceptable buyer, someone who had the vision and ability to carry on the company’s tradition of excellence. He found just that in Karl Scheufele, who had roots in a dynasty of German watchmakers from Pforzheim, Germany. The Scheufele heritage brought about the inclusion of fine jewellery for which they were also famous and as the old saying goes, the rest is history. From watches the progression went to jewellery and then to sunglasses, all crafted to perfection.

Luxury Sunglasses

If you are looking for high-end luxury sunglasses, it doesn’t get any better than Chopard. Each and every pair is crafted with the exact same precision and quality materials that their watches and jewellery are famous for. In fact, they are so committed to quality that they have been known to design bespoke sunglasses that are worth more than $200,000 USD. Anyone who would pay that much for sunglasses knows the value behind the name Chopard. However, don’t worry as that is not within the normal realm of their pricing structure.

Even so, Chopard designer eyewear does cost a bit more than other ‘luxury’ brands so it is always smart to look for discounts whenever possible. If you can get a pair of Chopard sunglasses at a discounted price, no one needs to know you didn’t pay the full listed price and you can be the talk of your friends. Wouldn’t that be amazing!
